tourism on farmlands, and the slow food movement
_______________________________________________
There’s a notion floating around that the “slow food movement,” born in Italy, is a reaction of outrage to places such as McDonald’s.
In truth, it’s a movement prompted by, yes, a low-level outrage, but more by a desire for love and enjoyment of food preparation, service, and consumption to be held in a place of honor in a fast-paced world.
Here’s a link to a very interesting article and slide show in the Atlantic magazine that gives an excellent introduction to the pleasures offered by the Tenuta Castel Venezze and hundreds of similar places, along the Po River valley midway between Bologna and Venice.
More entries to come about our five-day stay at the Tenuta.
You’ll recall it was part of the deal with Christine: I get my day on a Ducati on a racetrack, and she gets five days at a beautiful place in the country with a swimming pool.
She’s the overall winner, though, already clocking WAY more time in the pool than I’ll have in the seat of the Monster.
