the porticoes of Bologna: a sampling, and a stroll

Here’s a five-minute look at the splendid variety of porticoes in the city, and a walk along one of them (in Via San Felice, which was at the end of the block by our studio apartment in Via Paradiso) that covers a lot of ground, and charm, in a mile.

The music is Bolognese, as you’ll see in the closing credits, and every bit as grand as the city’s finest sidewalk experiences.

I suggest you give the page a few seconds to load the buffer before clicking the controller to play the movie.

Regarding the music: one viewer told me he thought that it came to an end on the climactic upward pan and that I’d then made a debatable (that’s my word, not his) choice to start the same track over again. In fact, Respighi’s “The Birth of Venus” proceeds just as you hear it, all the way through to the end of the creditswith a crescendo, climax, two seconds of silence, and a reprise of the opening theme for the final minute.
